TUPÃ

Tupã is the first angatu release launched in early 2024.

Angatu means the essence of the soul, while Tupã embodies the force of the thunder.
From Tupã emerged the primal energy, initiating its journey of enlightenment, culminating in a period of profound learning. After a transformative phase, it was ready to create its own reality.

This release combines a rich blend of electro and a solid house, bringing together everything needed for our nocturnal rituals.

Artists

Minority Retort is the outcome of a friendship that connects the creative visions, experience and musical synergy of @tokker___ and @pedro.pedva , both 'cariocas' from Rio de Janeiro. Although they see music in a similar way, producing together in studio is more challenging, a process of letting go and being open to new possibilities. Tireless and passionate diggers, they unveil a eclectic sound with a futuristic and polished vibe, heavy influenced by brazillian, north american and european culture.

"Typebeat”, one of the two tracks released by them in Tupã, was produced at the old studio in Rio on a post-beach day. Both are unpretentious songs made at the beginning of 2022 that hearten them to create the Minority Retort project, which was official a few months later.

The duo recently published ‘French Kiss’ on VA ‘Friends & Family Affair Vol.1’ by French record label Planete 51. Also confirmed later in 2024 is their first EP for the new vinyl imprint Digger.

Breno Cardoso aka Criminal Issues is known for his broad, eclectic and unusual musical background, loaded with energetic rhythms, striking ambiences, sturdy basslines and a happy atmosphere. A natural born digger, he researched through many genres until finding electronic music. As a producer and as a DJ, Breno has a taste for mixing different styles with soundness and authenticity: house and electro fuse with funk and jazz, proving that good music doesn’t depend on a specific type or era.

‘Tupã’ is Breno’s first press on vinyl and a very special one for him. ’Nxt2me’ developed in a very organic and familiar way, becoming one of the songs he best managed to convey the original idea into the final result. The subjectivity of creating music mesmerizes him as it is not an exact science and brings out infinite potential. That keeps him inspired and ‘on his toes’, ready to evolve.

Lucas productions are a spatial journey that seek to reference timeless synths into the present day. With strong and present drums, his basslines can vary from a single bar in a loop to meticulously constructed harmonies that tell a story with the melody along the music. With influence from ‘techno & tech house’ and ‘minimal techno’ from the 90’s and 00’s, he flirts with electro while trying to contain the noise and maintaining elegance throughout the process.

’New User’ (B2), one of the tracks released in Tupã, was the first he recorded in the first fortnight after the birth of his daughter, and the reason behind the name. His biggest inspiration is family, not only the one he created in Lisbon, but also the one he left behind in Brazil. Being born and raised within a humble musical home in a small city of Santa Catarina made him more determinated and strong-willed to achieve his goals professionally for the last ten years.

Lucas recently publish 'Capitulo' on VA 'Various - 08' by record label Mindhelmet. Also confirmed later in 2024 is his solo debut on a well-known British label.
